One of the first decisions is whether players will be bidding with a fixed starting amount or a variable starting amount.
With a fixed amount, say each person starts with $20. If you have 5 people in the league, there will be $100 in the pot. Since payouts are determined by percentage of the pool, everyone will know the payout values while bidding. This also requires strategy as you have to bid wisely.
With a variable starting amount, each person can bid however much they want. If one person really wants a specific team, they can bid it up until they get it. Payouts are determined by percentage of the pool, so the payout values won't be determined until the bidding is done and the pool is added up.
My friends and I exclusively play with fixed starting amounts. It's also an easier concept to approach if you're new.
